Melaka Sultanate Palace Museum (Muzium Istana Kesultanan Melaka)
Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum (Malay: Muzium Istana Kesultanan Melaka) is a museum located in Malacca City, near Dutch Square (Red Square). The museum building is a replica of the palace during the reign of Sultan Mansur Shah (1456-1477). The Museum was built based on annotations found in ancient Sejarah Melayu (Malay Annals) and consultation with the Malaysian Historical Society (Melaka Branch) and the Artists’ Association of Malacca.
The palace has a multi-tiered roof, with the first tier being the longest, measuring 246 feet long and 41 feet wide. It is supported by fur central pillars as well as other forms of reinforcement.
The construction material consists of local timber such as Resak, Chenga and Nyatoh; the roof is made of Belian wood from Sarawak, Malaysia. The palace walls are decorated with beautiful carvings of floral and plant motifs, among them the Ketam Buri.
Among the exciting exhibits in the Museum are the dioramas of the Blairong Seri, the Royal Bedchamber, the fight between Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat and other exhibition materials such as a variety of weaponry, traditional costumes, ceramics and brassware.
